Sunday, September 1st
Participants arrive in Iceland from their own countries. A preliminary meeting will take place in the hotel in the late afternoon.
The transfer from and to the airport is not included. The comfortable and reliable Flybus meets every landing flight connecting the airport with every hotel in the city. Accommodation in a hotel in Reykjavik included in the package… Not a problem if you land in the evening as long as you are ready to leave on Monday morning at 8am.
Monday, September 2nd
STAGE 1 10km – NORTH ICELAND
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure at 8am for a long journey taking us up north past Akureyri. During this day we will be doing a race presentation, safety briefing and also RacePack and BiB delivery. We’ll take time to go through every single detail of Run Iceland while enjoying its landscape. Once arrived at location we shall get settled at the hotel and get ready for an opening first stage of 10km at sunset in order to stretch your legs after a long day of traveling.
Tuesday, September 3th, 10 am
STAGE 2 – NORTH ICELAND
2nd STAGE 21.095 KM (also 3×10) +500M
Along the volcanic desert tracks and trails of northern Iceland you shall experience stage 2, a whole new experience staged in some of the island’s most remote areas. We shall run in the morning and travel afterwords, exploring some of the great attractions along the way.
Wednesday, September 4th am
STAGE 3 – EAST ICELAND
17km on hilly terrain, along the breathtaking eastern Fjords of Iceland. There will be some traveling involved before and after the running in this day in order to move further southeast to the next hotel and location.
Thursday, September 5th, 10 am
STAGE 4 – SOUTHEAST ICELAND
4th STAGE 12 KM (also 3×10), along a splendid rocky trail with plenty of ups and downs overlooking the majestic glaciers of South Iceland. Time to explore the glacier lagoon and Vatnajökull National Park on this day.
Friday, September 6th 10 am
STAGE 5 THE MARATHON
5th STAGE – MARATHON 42.192 KM (ALSO 3×10), +500M -305M
Possibility of running only the last 21 km.
Dirt roads and tracks through the lava fields up to the top of a volcano and along the stunning Dòmadalur Valley. The stage ends in the beautiful Landmannalaugar area where it will be possible to relax enjoying the natural hot springs. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Saturday, September 7th, 10 am
STAGE 6 – SOUTH ICELAND
6th STAGE KM 18 +500mt elev.
A really scenic mountain track going deep into Kayla Geopark. After the stage we’ll do the prize giving ceremony before returning back to Reykjavik. We shall say goodbye right before moving downtown for the world famous STAGE SEVEN and a late evening tour in the city centre of Reykjavik where it will be possible to experience and enjoy the lively Icelandic nightlife.
